Photo A Day – Daisy

It’s been a bit of a problem really, trying to keep up with a blog.

As much as I wish I was a writer, I am certainly not a natural one, although I hope that I would be a better one if I gave it more time.  But sadly I don’t have the sort of time it would take.  But blogging, apparently, is very important for a business. It’s good for SEO, it’s good to help your clients and customers learn to know, like and trust you and it keeps you relevant in this fast moving, distraction-inducing world we live in.

So there I was – signed up to yet another 30 day blogging challenge with prompts and help – and yet again, I sat for ages staring at the page debating what I was going to write about, and coming up with nothing, despite the prompts.  Actually, that’s not strictly true.  I did write something but, quite frankly, it was rubbish. A bit forced and unnatural.  So I shelved that particular post.  I might resurrect it one day and improve once I have managed to practise my writing considerably more but for now, it can stay safely out of sight.

A Great Idea

Then, it came to me.

Instead of writing a post a day, I would post a photograph a day.  I am a photographer after all!  The images will be of my life as I live it with my dogs, my horses and the things I do every day.  I do quite a lot of things.  So stay with me and you might just see.

The Image I Took Today

So today we have an image I took when I was in our kitchen making a coffee and Daisy, our lovely little Jack Russell, came and sat on the steps into the kitchen.  She looked so perfect, beautifully posed with the light on her in just the way I love it. Lots of contrast, shadows and moody.  Sadly, though, I didn’t have my camera with me so I had to go and get it. I continued with what I was doing in the kitchen in the hope that she would go back to her place on top of the steps with the light just perfectly on her.  But she didn’t. And I didn’t have time to wait for her to do it on the off chance.  And before you ask, yes I could have put her where she was but she has a bit of a habit of looking very sorry for herself if she is told what to do.  I think it’s a Jack Russell thing – manipulation by sad expression! Believe me, I have had quite a few Jack Russells over the years, and they are very good at it!

But she did go and sit somewhere that I knew I would get a decent image of her. I had to move a jumper that was hanging on the back of a chair but she managed to stay still for enough time to allow me to take all of 3 shots and that was it!  Her paw raised is her signal that she won’t stay still for long.  And she didn’t!

I knew immediately, in fact even before I took the image, that it was going to be in black & white.  I loved the atmospheric look of the dark room with a black and white dog.  This room is our dining room and doesn’t have a lot of windows. I have used it in the past when I was photographing food for a while as a studio for the moody images of food that I love.  So I didn’t need to take long to decide.

Tomorrow I will post another image. I have no idea what it will be but it will be something!
